Is Laparoscopy really effective?
My gynecologist advised to me if you have intention to get pregnant sooner then you need to get laparoscopy surgery but if you wont then he will prescribe medicine for me to control my hormone and control the size my endometriosis cyst and it will prevent me from getting pregnant for a while.
I asked whether Laparoscopy effective? He said it will help you to remove your cyst and after the surgery you can try to conceive and he will see the progress of my condition. But it will not guarantee you not to have endometriosis cyst again.
Who Should Get laparoscopy Surgery
Your gynecologist will recommend you to get surgery if:
- You feel severe abdominal pain that caused by endometriosis and medication does not enough help.
- Endometriosis or related symptoms reappear or continue following hormone therapy.
- Your infertility is caused by endometriosis.
- An abnormal mass has been detected on your ovary.
- Your internal organs such as bowel or bladder affected by endometriosis.
Is Laparoscopy Expensive?
I decided to try my luck to do laparoscopy surgery as I intend to conceive sooner. The cost of laparoscopy surgery was not cheap either I spent more than S$10,000 (all inclusive such as hospital bed, surgery fee, doctor fee, anesthesia fee, but not including takeaway medicine).
How Laparoscopy Procedure Is Done
During the surgery you will not feel anything as you will be given anesthetic prior the surgery. During Laparoscopy doctor will make an incision in your abdomen typically under your belly button, but for my case doctor make 4 incision 1 on the left of my abdomen, 1 on the right abdomen, 1 under belly button and 1 place before your vaginal hair (you need to shave before surgery). The size of incision is very small around 1 to 1.5cm and you do not need to be afraid to wear your swim suit as the area of incision is small and you would not really notice it after your scar completely heal.
Complication After Laparoscopy Surgery
According to doctor laparoscopy surgery is relatively safe but of course there are some risk involved including:
- Internal bleeding
- Hernia (a bulged caused by poor healing) at incision site.
- Damaged to blood vessel or other organs such as stomach, bowel or bladder.
Because of risk on top I searched professional gynecologist and based on customer review and I decided to do it with someone who I put utmost trust to handle it as this is not minor surgery but major surgery which involved major complications too.
I did laparoscopy surgery in Kandang Kerbau Hospital Singapore in 2019.
After Laparoscopy Surgery
After surgery lucky for me I did not feel any pain or fever at all and no any complications. Even after I discharged from hospital I did not take any pain killer being given by my doctor. Activities you need to avoid after laparoscopy surgery:
- Intense exercise
- Sexual intercourse (can do it 1 month after surgery)
After surgery, the first menstruation symptoms that I felt is not far better than symptoms that I always feel every menstruation. At least I did not feel pain but stomach cramps still can felt it. Even standing or walking to bathroom I felt very uncomfortable. I just laid down on my bed the whole days, but the second day I felt better less cramps. Usually in order to ease the stomach cramp and stomach pain I will drink hot water and it is really works.
But sure enough not even 1 year after surgery my endometriosis cyst grew to the size as bigger as before surgery. My gynecologist also did not know what the reason why endometriosis cyst grew so fast. So he advised me to do IVF which will be a bit stressful but worth to try if you want to conceive. I replied that I will consider it. I was very stressful when I heard the endometriosis cyst grew back. But I picked my spirit up again and not giving up.
I did some research any possibilities for natural treatment to ease my endometriosis cyst and polyp. I tried for several months roughly it takes 3 months onwards I felt so different. I did not even believe it. Even doctor say it is no cure yes I agree on that but I want something to ease my endometriosis symptoms so I can do my activities like usual.
Any women with endometriosis definitely would love to be free from the endometriosis symptoms. The pain and the cramps is unimaginable can make you crawl on the bed. So you can imagine when I finally free from the symptoms it felt great!. I would love to share with you in next blog and hopefully it will fits you.
Next blog I will discuss the treatment to improve my condition and is that effective? check it out!
